Institute of Food Hygiene, Center of Veterinary Public Health

Our institute is responsible for the theoretical and practical training (teaching) of students of veterinary medicine according to TAppV as well as for the education and training of veterinarians in the fields of food, meat and milk hygiene [link].

Objective of our research is to ensure a high level of consumer protection. In addition to pathogen-based basic research, our institute has a microbiologically-technologically oriented research profile. In particular, traditional and new production technologies will be tested in order to minimize risks of food-borne pathogens (bacteria, viruses, parasites) and spoilage microorganisms in food.

For research purposes and the investigation of counter-check and self-control samples of food processing establishments (service) microbiological, molecular biological and chemical laboratories are available. Selected services are accredited by the DAkkS according to DIN EN ISO / IEC 17025:2005.
